2011 Audi TT

The 2011 TT is a 2-door, up to 4-passenger luxury sports coupe, or luxury convertible, available in two trims, the 2.0T Prem Plus Coupe quattro S tronic and the 2.0T Prem Plus Roadster quattro S tronic.

Upon introduction, both trims are equipped with a standard 2.0-liter, I4, 211-horsepower, turbo engine that achieves 22-mpg in the city and 31-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

Lyra, who always wanted to drive Audis TT, brought high expectations to the little convertible. Peter, never particularly impressed with the roadsters styling, had few expectations. The end result: Lyra was disappointed, while Peter loved the car. Go figure.
Appearance: The squat roadster sits on 18-inch tires and has a wide stance that recalls Audis R8 supercar, which we loved. The TTs design, however, is simple, with fender flares and a backward-sweeping body crease as its only sheet-metal flourishes. The black grille, which got tweaked for 2011, is trimmed in chrome, and Audis signature LED "eyeliner" lights are sharp.
Performance: Heres what we agreed on: The 6-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic shifted flawlessly. We always prefer a manual transmission, but this automatic was almost as fun. For a small roadster, the TT absorbs bumps well and has a firm, composed ride. Theres also an auto-deployed spoiler and, of course, Audis quattro all-wheel-drive system. The 2-liter, 211-horsepower 4-cylinder is more than enough power (0-60 in 5.6 seconds) for the small car, which has an exhaust note that is subtle and throaty. Heres what we didnt agree on: Lyra was let down by the "significant" turbo lag; Peter felt it was only "slight." The steering was a "bit too light" for Lyras taste, while Peter thought it gave just the right amount of feedback.
Interior: We may have disagreed on the cars performance, but we are unified on the well-appointed interior. The Nappa leather seats are well-bolstered and comfortable. Our tester had bright red seats that contrasted beautifully with the rich black exterior. The instrument gauges are simple and uncluttered yet easy to read. The flat-bottom steering wheel might take some getting used to for some. Peter drove the TT to Miami and he had enough head- and legroom. Impressive. And he arrived in South Florida not feeling like a pretzel. Another surprise: The TTs trunk, even with the folding soft top, actually had enough room for the bags he and his wife took on their weekend getaway. Thats impressive for a small convertible. A few nits: The storage panel behind seats felt a bit plasticky considering the rest of the interior; the drivers floor mat was flimsy and popped easily off its anchor. We both spent time popping it back on.
Protection: Front, head/thorax and knee airbags plus side intrusion protection and roll bars.
Profile: The roadster looks slick with top up or down.
Seats: Bright red seats and interior trim scream "sports car."

2011 Ford Taurus

The 2011 Taurus is a 4-door, 5-passenger family sedan, available in 6 trims, ranging from the SE FWD to the SHO AWD.

Upon introduction, the SE FWD is equipped with a standard 3.5-liter, V6, 263-horsepower engine that achieves 18-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. The SHO AWD is equipped with a standard 3.5-liter, V6, 365-horsepower, turbo engine that achieves 17-mpg in the city and 25-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.

Whats New for 2011

Only minor equipment changes are in store for the 2011 Ford Taurus. The Limited and SHO models gain a standard rearview camera, while Sync–equipped models receive a complimentary three-year subscription to the new Traffic, Directions and Information service. The optional navigation system now includes HD radio capability.

Introduction

Whether its actors or athletes, everybody loves a good comeback story. When it was introduced in 1986, the original Taurus helped revolutionize the midsize family sedan segment. But then years of neglect caused the Taurus star to dim. Now a comeback is in order, as Ford redesigned the Taurus just last year to make buyers take notice once again.
The 2011 Ford Taurus continues to be a full-size sedan, leaving the midsize category to the Fusion. Its styling is hardly the revolutionary concept that the original Taurus was, but its nevertheless attractive and more interesting than the previous model. On the inside youll find a handsome design and top-quality materials. Perhaps most appealing is the generous passenger room and a trunk thats bigger than nearly everything else on the market.
While the Taurus makes for a comfortable family vehicle, those looking for some extra muscle can consider the SHO version. Powered by a twin-turbo V6 known as the EcoBoost, this engine sends 365 horsepower to all four wheels, yet returns the same fuel economy as the normally aspirated 263-hp V6. The SHO is a worthy competitor to Chryslers Hemi V8-powered 300C and Lincolns MKS, but given its hefty price, youd be wise to check out luxury sport sedans as well.
As for the more common regular Taurus, it competes with both full-size family sedans and entry-level luxury cars depending on trim level. Base models compare favorably with the Honda Accord, Hyundai Azera and Toyota Avalon, but the top-of-the-line Limited doesnt strike us as a particularly good bargain when pitted against the more luxurious and refined Hyundai Genesis.
Even so, we still think pretty highly of the 2011 Ford Taurus. Other than a couple interior design missteps and the SHO variants hefty price, the Taurus is largely vice-free. With its roomy, comfortable interior and full complement of cutting-edge convenience and safety features, the new Taurus looks to be an American nameplate poised to make a dramatic comeback.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2011 Ford Taurus is a full-size sedan that seats five people. It is available in SE, SEL, Limited and SHO trim levels. Standard equipment on the SE includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, keyless entry with an access keypad, cruise control, a six-way power driver seat (manual recline), a 60/40-split-folding rear seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, steering-wheel audio controls and a six-speaker stereo with CD/MP3 player and an auxiliary audio jack.
The SEL adds 18-inch wheels, automatic transmission paddle shifters, heated mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, upgraded cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and satellite radio. Options on the SEL include 19-inch wheels, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, a power passenger seat, ambient lighting, leather upholstery and the hands-free Sync system, which allows you to control compatible cell phones and MP3 players with simple voice commands. All Sync-equipped models also get a complimentary three-year subscription to the new Traffic, Directions and Information service.
These items are standard on the Taurus Limited, which also gets eight-way power front seats with power lumbar and driver memory functions, a wood-trimmed steering wheel and an upgraded stereo with a six-disc CD/MP3 player.
The Taurus SHO adds a more powerful engine, a sport-tuned suspension, xenon headlamps, an auto-dimming exterior driver mirror (optional on Limited), a rear spoiler, keyless ignition/entry (optional on SEL and Limited), upgraded leather upholstery and faux-suede upholstery inserts. The SHO Performance package adds performance brake pads, recalibrated steering, a different final-drive ratio, stability control defeat, summer tires and 20-inch wheels. Those wheels are also a stand-alone option.
The SEL can be optioned with heated front seats, while the Limited and SHO can be equipped with a blind-spot warning system, automatic wipers, automatic high beams, keyless ignition/entry, adaptive cruise control, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, power rear window shade and a navigation system with voice controls, touchscreen, Sirius Travel Link (real-time traffic, weather and other information), a single-CD player, DVD audio and digital music storage. All Taurus models but the base SE can be optioned with a sunroof, "multicontour" seats with active bolsters and a 12-speaker Sony sound system.

Powertrains and Performance

The 2011 Taurus is powered by a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 263 hp and 249 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard. On all trims except the SE, the transmission features manual shift control and downshift rev-matching capability. Front-wheel drive is standard with this engine and all-wheel drive is available on SEL and Limited trim levels. Fuel economy with front-wheel drive is an EPA-estimated 18 mpg city/28 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined. All-wheel drive drops it to 17/25/20.
The Taurus SHO features a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 making 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic with shift paddles is standard. Every SHO is all-wheel drive. Despite its impressive output, estimated fuel economy is the same as the regular all-wheel-drive Taurus.

Safety

Every 2011 Ford Taurus comes standard with antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. Optional safety features include a blind-spot warning system, pre-collision warning system, a cross-traffic warning system (when reversing) and rear parking sensors. A rearview camera is standard on Limited and SHO models and optional on the SEL.
In the governments new, more strenuous crash testing for 2011, the Taurus earned an overall rating of four stars out of a possible five, with four stars for overall frontal crash protection and five stars for overall side crash protection. It also got the best rating of "Good" in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safetys frontal-offset, side and roof strength tests.

Interior Design and Special Features

Inside, the 2011 Ford Taurus offers a cabin thats surprisingly upscale, though some hard plastics on the center console detract from this effect. The interior also gets high marks for comfort, especially the adult-friendly backseat. The rear seatbacks can also be folded down for rare occasions where the cavernous trunks 20.1 cubic feet of cargo room isnt sufficient. Unfortunately, the cars high beltline, thick pillars and tall center console can make the cabin seem a bit confining.
The Taurus control layout is quite functional overall, despite the abundance of buttons for the climate control and audio systems, and the deep-set gauges that can be hard to read. Models equipped with the Sync system allow the driver to access a wide variety of functions on their compatible cell phone or MP3 player with voice commands, all without ever taking their eyes off the road or hands off the steering wheel. The three-year complimentary subscription to Syncs new Traffic, Directions and Information service also allows the driver to call up info ranging from real-time traffic reports to personalized info like news headlines and sports scores the same way.

Driving Impressions

Whether cruising down the interstate or battling cross-town traffic on surface streets, the 2011 Ford Taurus remains unexpectedly quiet thanks to fine-tuned aerodynamics and strategically placed sound insulation. Ride quality is equally good, even with the SHO models stiffer suspension. Handling feels stable and secure, though the lack of steering feel and its substantial proportions keep the car from feeling particularly sporty even in SHO trim.
The standard V6 engine provides decent acceleration for everyday driving. Pony up for the turbocharged Taurus SHO and youll get significantly more oomph without a drop in fuel economy.

2011 Rinspeed Bamboo Concept

Swiss design company Rinspeed will releases its newest concept car, called the BamBoo, which will debut at the Geneva Motor Show

Designed by pop artist James Rizzi, the BamBoo was created to evoke memories of summer days spent on the beach in 1970s St. Tropez. Despite the retro inspiration, the car has a composite body and a high-tech "Identiface" grille which can display Facebook messages, websites, and other internet content. Theres also a two-piece removable roof and 17-inch AEZ aluminum wheels with Goodyear EfficientGrip tires.

Driving, it appears, is less important than comfortable beach living. Power is provided by a 54-kilowatt (72 horsepower) electric motor, ensuring the 2400-pound BamBoo will be only slightly quicker than the two-cylinder Mehari. Rinspeed shies from battery details, but notes the BamBoo can travel 60 miles on a single charge.

The interior includes an HTC tablet PC with a docking station located in the glovebox. The inflatable rear seats are stored in aluminum cases and can been taken out of the car to be used as chairs.

In addition, both rear seats are inflatable and stored in two aluminum cases on the open cargo bed, and – they too can be taken to the beach. Another notable feature is the dashboard that is said to open "in breadbox fashion" revealing the control elements and the futuristic VDO display on the driver side, and a glove box that houses a seven-inch HTC tablet PC “Flyer” with docking station on the passenger side.

Press Release

"BamBoo" - A Taste of this Summer!

Open Speedster for the Extroverted Communicator - Seamless High-Tech, Purism and Lifestyle.

This car irritates. Could be that its the ingenious crafted creations of world-renowned New York pop artist James Rizzi. In any case, Frank M. Rinderknecht‘s latest work "BamBoo" lets the sun rise over the over-engineered metal creatures at the Geneva Motor Show, whose single purpose is to never touch anything other than black asphalt. Yes, this is a taste of summer. A taste of beach and sand, of the lightness and lightheartedness of southern latitudes. It is a reminiscence of the Seventies, of the south of France, of St. Tropez. Its colors range from salmon to lobster and yellow, shimmering in the sunlight, staged perfectly by color- and adhesive-repair-specialist ("StickerFix") AkzoNobel. And one would expect to find Brigitte Bardot behind the wheel with playboy Gunther Sachs at her side heading towards Tahiti beach. But at the same time this car points to the future with clever innovations such as a communication display in place of a radiator grille and an inflatable roof that also serves as a beach blanket. Yes, this sun & fun car will blow the roof off!

Anyone who might think that this is simple retro design underestimates the boss of the Swiss concept powerhouse. He reinterprets the automotive references of days gone by and evolves them into the future. He plays with mans yearning to get back to the roots, often paired with the desire to be in harmony with creation. That makes electric drive, also for the onboard foldable two wheeler for the last "mile", a must. More than just about anyone the Rinspeed boss knows how to play on strong emotions and dreams beyond the macho horsepower affectation. This is the fundamental reason why Rinderknecht is considered an automotive visionary by many.

The latest creation from Rinderknecht - jointly developed and built by Swiss engineering firms 4erC and Esoro - resembles a grown-up golf cart at first glance. But one that offers a firework of innovation and design. This successful combination is most evident in the canopy-like inflatable roof developed by Swiss company Tecnotex. It is covered with water-resistant „Skai Neptun Caleri" with nano coating supplied by the Hornschuch Company. It protects the interior against possible morning dew. Nothing but air lends the two-piece waterproof design its rigidity. While the outside of the roof is decorated by a giant Rizzi beach scene, the inside is refined by visionary spinning mill Schoeller from Bregenz with thread made from genuine bamboo. No doubt, anyone going to the beach with this mattress will easily outshine any folding convertible roof, no matter how elegant and will instantly be in conversation with their beach chair neighbors.

In any case, "Bamboo" is the fitting sun & fun car for the extroverted communicator. Personal messages for the people in the vicinity of the car are displayed on the innovative "Identiface." This screen-based section, developed by Daimler subsidiary MBtech in Stuttgart, replaces the radiator grille, which is mostly redundant on an electric vehicle anyways. Thanks to its Internet connectivity "Identiface" can display the occupants Facebook pages, news from around the world, the manufacturers logo or an offer for a ride from A to B. Engineering service provider Helveting with support from Zurich Versicherung custom-developed the "BamBoo-Community" platform. This platform also offers additional practical features centered on social networking, sustainability and optimal driving behavior. In combination with the famous color-changing "Rizzi bird" on the rollover bar (green = I am single; blue = I am in party mood; orange = I need a break) it creates an entirely new automotive form of communication beyond deafening noise attacks. "Rizzi bird" instead of flipping the bird.

Simple but highly refined is the interior of the "BamBoo." Its all in a name: The sides of the Bordeaux-red bench are decorated with the "BamBoo" logo and the "Rizzi bird," artfully woven with bamboo thread by Zurich weaver Weisbrod. The center seating surfaces are decorated with Rizzi drawings, and are made from breathable high performance synthetik „Laif" material. And both rear seats are inflatable and stored in two aluminum cases on the open cargo bed. You guessed it - they too can be taken to the beach.

The puristic dashboard is in the shape of a giant breadbox - and the fine cover made from braided plastics supplied by polymer manufacturer Ticona - opens in breadbox fashion to reveal the control elements and the futuristic VDO display. The far right of the glove box houses a seven-inch HTC tablet PC "Flyer" with docking station. In keeping with the times the tablet PC and the occupants smartphones guarantee that the "BamBoo" and its passengers are always connected everywhere. The elongated "bread bin" is flanked by Harman JBL GreenEdge speakers in an avant-garde design. The worlds leading provider of premium sound and infotainment systems is focusing on connectivity with its scalable entertainment system and the "Aha Radio" application. And in the center thrones the vent of the electric high-voltage heater from German supplier Eberspächer catem. By the way the "BamBoo" is started with an army knife. Typically Swiss.

With all this nicely packaged lifestyle the underlying technical specifications of the "BamBoo" are easily overlooked: The four four-seater features an electric motor from the German Fräger Group (German e-Cars) with 54 kW of power. This high-torque motor "made in Germany" accelerates the 1,090-kilogram vehicle to a top speed of 120 km/h. Lightweight construction does its part: The steel chassis with horizontal shock absorbers carries a sturdy composite body combined with the use of polymer plastic materials. Henkel supplies the structural foams as well as sealants and adhesives. The entire thing sits on 17" AEZ three-spoke billet aluminum wheels with painted inserts and eco-friendly Goodyear "EfficientGrip" energy-saving tires in 17". And the operating range? The batterys capacity is enough for 105 kilometers - plenty for a fun car for short-distance traffic between hotel, beach and restaurant visits in the evenings. Speaking of range: Rinderknecht has also partnered with energy giant RWE, whose "intelligent" charging station demonstrates how an innovative infrastructure specialist tackles the issue of e-mobility. The advanced charger communicates with the car across all borders.

And what effect will "BamBoo" have in Geneva? "BamBoo" will push the reset button in the head of the observer, clearing the mind for a new way of automotive thinking. It exhibits simple, crisp lines; nothing is redundant - aesthetics in their purest form. Close your eyes and youll find yourself cruising through pine forests and lavender fields in your mind. The little car was made for the beautiful beaches and vacation spots of this planet, making the "BamBoo" sort of a world car. No wonder that bustling Frank M. Rinderknecht wants to seize this chance as figurehead of Swiss watch manufacturer C.F. Bucherer and thinks aloud about a series production. Rinderknecht will only say this: "Yes, there have been constructive talks for some time with a number of potential manufacturers." To be on the safe side, the Düsseldorf consulting firm A.T. Kearney already has manufacturing and company concepts for a series production in the drawer.

At the Geneva Motor Show even visions have to be communicated visually in top quality with HD displays and Blu-ray players from Sharp and advertising support from "Die Agentur" based in Germanys federal state of Saarland.

2011 Toyota Avalon

The 2011 Toyota Avalonare so comfortable that they “make me want to take a nap”—I think that’s what Shakespeare calls to “damn with faint praise.” As for Toyota itself, even the automaker’s party line is that the goal of the full-size sedan is “Evoking a time when travel was sophisticated, elegant and comfortable.”
Reading between the lines here, it’s clear from the get-go that the Avalon—like the one the folks at Toyota lent me for a week—is ceding any pretensions about being a “driver’s car” to the competition. But here’s what’s interesting: Doing so is actually to the Avalon’s advantage. There aren’t many cars left that still cater to the stereotypical luxobarge crowd, yet the demand for these vehicles is still relatively high. In fact, it’s probably a lot higher than automakers realize—well, let me fine-tune that sentence a bit. It’s not that there’s a lot of people out there proactively shopping for cars with floaty soft handling and cloud-light steering; it’s just that, for many customers, that kind of “driving” experience simply doesn’t factor into the purchase decision. As long as the car in question delivers in other areas, they’re more than happy to buy it.
How else do you explain the success of the Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla?
Full Speed Behind
First, a little detour: There was a time when full-size sedans made up a core segment in the U.S. marketplace and an integral part of the Big Three’s lineups. They were the family haulers of choice and, as is obvious from the nomenclature involved, set the standard for what a “normal” car should be. After all, that’s really what “full-size” means, right? It’s like buying a full-size set of golf clubs or a full-size refrigerator or what have you.
But the gas crisis of the 1970s started changing the ol’ paradigm here, and by the time automakers started building big vehicles again in the 1990s, they had changed their focus to SUVs and pickups. For these and other reasons, the basic car hierarchy gradually shifted so that the subcompact/compact/midsize progression became the norm instead of something closer to compact/midsize/full-size. The effect of this was to unlink the full-sizers from most company’s high-volume expectations, so that many of the current big sedans, like the Avalon or Ford Taurus, are now configured with premium amenities, premium price tags and the kind of low-ish annual sales numbers usually reserved for premium vehicles.
The only full-size sedan to crack six-figures in annual sales last year was the Chevrolet Impala, which did so courtesy of fleet buyers. The Ford Taurus sold 68,859 units last year, the Avalon just 28,390.
To put that into context, in February, the Corolla found 25,860 new buyers and the Camry rang up 27,212 sales—in other words, Toyota’s top sellers each garnered about the same number of customers in the shortest month of this year than the Avalon did for all of 2010.
Evaluating the Updating
Of course, one of the reasons so few Avalon customers showed up last year was that the car was in the last few months of its life cycle, with Toyota launching the updated 2011 model late in 2010. Thus, through February, the new Avalon has seen sales jump up by 128 percent, although this represents just 3,821 customers. The two-month totals for the Corolla and Camry are at 46,441 and 45,357, respectively.
To me, the solution is a simple one and can be accomplished through some savvy repositioning: As the U.S. market’s most luxurious Toyota, the Avalon has outlived its usefulness—and lost its place to the Lexus lineup. But considered a full-size complement to the Camry and Corolla, it retains plenty of potential for growth.
As those smaller cars have proven year after year after year, there are hundreds of thousands of buyers who put other vehicle characteristics ahead of driving dynamics and exterior design flair, which are the two weakest parts of the Avalon package. Against “true” luxury vehicles, or even products like the Buick LaCrosse or Chrysler 300, those deficiencies can look like deal breakers.
But as a bigger, nicer Camry, the Avalon would be likely to see bigger, nicer sales numbers, too.

The 2011 Avalon is a 4-door, 5-passenger family sedan, available in two trims, the Base and the Limited.

Upon introduction, both trims are equipped with a standard 3.5-liter, V6, 268-horsepower engine that achieves 20-mpg in the city and 29-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.
Toyota strives to build vehicles to match customer interest and thus they typically are built with popular options and option packages. Not all options/packages are available separately and some may not be available in all regions of the country. If you would prefer a vehicle with no or different options, contact your dealer to check for current availability or the possibility of placing a special order.
Some vehicles are shown with available equipment. Seatbelts should be worn at all times. For details on vehicle specifications, standard features and available equipment in your area, contact your Toyota dealer. A vehicle with particular equipment may not be available at the dealership. Ask your Toyota dealer to help locate a specifically equipped vehicle.

2011 BMW Z4 Review

Welcome to the gotta-have-it car of 2011. Men, women, kids....doesnt matter. Pull up in this and get ready for the questions:

Is it as wonderful to drive as it is to look at?

How fast is it?

Can you toss me the keys for an afternoon?

Here are the answers:

Yes.

Plenty.

I promised the folks at Chapman BMW in Chandler, Arizona that I wouldnt do that.

Longtime TireKicker followers know that I believe in BMW magic. TireKickers first review (complete with the story of my first teenage encounter with a 2002tii) was of a BMW convertible (the 128i).

Well, the BMW magic has never been stronger than it is in the Z4. The styling re-defines the concept of animal magnetism (something like this cant possibly be just metal). The retractable hardtop gives you the best of both worlds...the practicality and security of a fixed-roof coupe and the wind in your hair and sun on your skin of a convertible.

And its a magnificent melding of the contemporary and the relatively recent past, grabbing styling cues from the limited-production 2000-2003 Z8.

The Z4 comes in three levels, the sDrive30i, with 255 horsepower and a base price of $47,450; the sDrive35i at 300 horsepower and a base price of $51,900 and the sDrive35is...335 horsepower and a starting price of $62,500.  Our week was in the middle of the line sDrive35i.

If there is a more balanced driving machine, I cant remember driving it. The car is light and nimble, steering responses are rightnowquick and, despite a short wheelbase and overall length, the ride is smooth while still giving great feedback from the road.

And inside, where the driving gets done? Well, the Z4 is every good thing about BMW. Phenomenal ergonomics, top-quality materials, an unflinching devotion to quality workmanship. And an integrated group of electronics that actually help get distractions out of the drivers way rather than adding to them. Its all (even the more complex functions) simple, direct and intuitive.

Even optionless, the Z4 sDrive35i would be a fantastic car, but our tester had several key option boxes checked: Titanium Silver Metallic paint (which everyone we encountered remarked on as the most beautiful shade of silver theyd seen), $550; the Premium Package (universal garage door opener, power front seats, lumbar support and BMW Assist with Bluetooth), $2,500; the Premium Sound Package, which upgrades the audio system while adding an iPod and USB adapter and a 1-year satellite radio subscription; the Sport Package (an increased top-speed limiter, sport seats and adaptive M suspension) for $2,300 and a further bump-up to 19-inch alloy V-spoke wheels for $1,200.

But thats not all. The 7-speed double clutch transmission (which includes a sport steering wheel with paddles, Servotronic and a multi-function steering wheel) was also on the list for $1,575. Those extra gears pay off in improved fuel economy...EPA estimates 17 city/ 24 highway.

$400 for the anti-theft alarm system, $500 for Comfort Access keyless entry, $500 for heated front seats, $2,100 for an excellent navigation system and an $875 destination charge brought ours to a bottom line of $66,200.

And you know what? Its worth it. Its three things: A brilliant car for driving, a work of art to look at, and over the long haul, an investment. Mark my words...this is a classic in our time. A car that 30 years from now and beyond youll look at and say "I wish Id bought one".  Any one of those things would be enough to secure the Z4 a slot on TireKickers Top 10 Cars (So Far). All three? Its a lock.

2011 Kia Sportage SX price

KIA Motor introduced their new SUV 2011 KIA Sportage SX 2000 cc Turbo, which had already been introduced in Canada, for America and other markets. Powered by the Theta II 2.0-liter Turbo GDI engine, this sporty crossover has a base price of $25,795.

The Sportage SX gets its power from a Theta II 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder engine. Rated at 256 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque while managing 27 mpg on the highway, Kia says its t he most efficient turbo crossover on the market.

Kia will also offer orange and blue interior color packages on the Sportage SX. "The orange color package includes orange stitching on the steering wheel, center console, and seats coupled with orange accents on the door panels and air vents," Kia said, while the blue color package offers a "unique blue patterned cloth seat and blue interior accents."

Kia has also adjusted the suspension to actually be firmer than the current non-SX trim levels of the Sportage. We’ve tested those versions over hundreds of miles and found the suspension to be extremely firm as-is, and it’s one of the vehicle’s few drawbacks.

The SX will also have some unique features, including its own specific style of 18-inch alloy wheels, unique grille, dual exhaust and a revised gauge cluster. There will also be some SX-specific interior color combinations, including orange and blue.

Inside the cabin, the SX gets a few upgrades, as well: aluminum door sills and a new "supervision" gauge cluster. Orange and blue interior trim packages area also available only on the Sportage SX, with the orange package adding stitching to the steering wheel, seats, and center console, plus orange accents on the door panels and air vents. The blue package adds patterned blue cloth seats and other blue interior accents.

The 2011 Kia Sportage SX front-wheel-drive model starts at $25,795, while the all-wheel-drive Sportage SX starts at $27,295. The 2011 Kia Sportage LX and EX trims come standard with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine making 176-hp and offer a fuel-economy of 21/31 mpg (city/highway).

ORLAND, Fl, March 4, 2011 - On the heels of its 2011 International Truck of the Year recognition by ICOTY jurors, Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced the launch of the all-new 2011 Sportage SX compact CUV, scheduled to arrive in dealer showrooms later this month. As part of Kias design-led transformation, the Sportage has become a strong player within the Kia line-up, offering power and class-leading fuel economy1. SX models take a solid foundation and up the ante with a more powerful four-cylinder turbo engine, exterior styling enhancements and unique interior options. The 2011 Sportage SX front-wheel drive (FWD) features a starting Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $25,7952 while all-wheel drive (AWD) models feature a starting MSRP of $27,2952.

The Sportage SX joins the 2011 Optima Turbo as Kias second vehicle in the U.S to feature the powerful Theta II 2.0-liter Turbo GDI engine and adds unique exterior and interior features and luxury appointments to provide consumers a high performance and high value CUV. In combination with a highly efficient six-speed automatic transmission, the new Sportage SX features up to 256 horsepower while maintaining class-leading fuel economy1 of 27 miles per gallon on the highway, better than any other turbo-equipped compact CUV on the market today. In addition to powertrain enhancements, the Sportage SX employs sport-tuned suspension featuring firmer shock and strut rates for improved handling and dynamic performance over non-SX models.

"Sportage offers an ideal mix of performance, fuel efficiency and utility for the discriminating compact CUV buyer," said Michael Sprague, vice president, marketing & communications, KMA. "With the addition of a more powerful Turbo GDI engine, unique interior appointments and improved performance, the Sportage SX makes an already appealing CUV even more fun to drive."

On the outside, SX models receive unique 18" alloy wheels, a signature SX grille, dual exhaust, and special side sill moldings. Exterior updates are complemented by SX-specific interior appointments adding more refinement inside the cabin, including standard aluminum door sills and a sleek new supervision gauge cluster. Available exclusively on the Sportage SX, Orange and Blue interior color packages offer more interior color choices for potential buyers. The Orange Color Package includes orange stitching on the steering wheel, center console, and seats coupled with orange accents on the door panels and air vents. A unique blue patterned cloth seat and blue interior accents are included as part of the Blue Color Package.

More Powerful, Fuel-Efficient SX Engine

Kia Motors Theta II 2.0-liter Turbo GDI engine delivers significant performance with a powerful inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces up to 256 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of peak torque. The Sportage SX turbo utilizes a twin-scroll design which offers improved combustion efficiency, more available low-end power, and reduced turbo-lag as compared to more traditional single-scroll turbo systems.

The twin-scroll design features two valve-operated exhaust gas inlets responsible for feeding exhaust flow through separate paths into the turbine. Utilizing a divided manifold, exhaust gasses from separate cylinders travel more efficiently into the turbochargers turbine, avoiding possible interference. The result is a system that improves efficiency and pressure distribution, lowers exhaust and cylinder temperatures, and prevents loss of exhaust energy. The quantity of the air entering each cylinder is increased, resulting in more power.

Sportage LX and EX trims come standard with a 2.4-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine with Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT), offering more power (up to 176 hp3) and better fuel economy (22/31 city/highway4) than the previous 2.7-liter V6 engine.
